PCPG Photography Contest 2012

PCPG is pleased to announce its first-ever photo contest!  Show off your photographic skills among your fellow geologists and win one of six prizes!

The contest is open to both members and non-members alike; however, only PCPG members will vote to determine the winners.  Entries are required to be submitted using this Entry Form, and details of the contest are provided below.  Please email a completed copy of the Entry Form and your image entry to photocontest@pcpg.org.

By submission of an entry, you must agree to the terms and conditions of this contest as listed below.

 

Terms & Conditions

1.   Anyone can submit a photo; however, only PCPG members will vote on the entries to determine the winners. Entries must be submitted with this Entry Form.

2.   The picture must be taken within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in an effort to highlight the geology that Pennsylvania has to offer.

3.   Entries must be received by January 19, 2012. EXTENDED TO JANUARY 31, 2012.  PCPG reserves the right to disqualify any entry.

4.   Voting will occur from January 31 February 15, 2012 to March 31, 2012.

5.   Each image can only be entered in one category and individual entrants can only submit one image per subject matter.

6.   Entrants can submit multiple submissions, so long as the requirements of #5 are met.

7.   Each photograph submitted must have been taken by the entrant and cannot be copyrighted.

8.   Categories of entry include the following:

  • Geomorphology—Events, objects or activities connecting the concept of landforms and the processes that shape them.
  • Paleontology— Events, objects or activities connecting the concept of prehistoric life, which does include the study of fossils.
  • Structural Geology— Events, objects or activities connecting the concept of the distribution of rock units with respect to their deformational histories.
  • Sedimentology/Stratigraphy— Events, objects or activities connecting the concept of rock layers and/or layering. 
  • Mineralogy— Events, objects or activities connecting the concept of the chemistry, crystal structure, and/or physical properties of minerals.

9.   PCPG members will vote to determine the category winners.  The winner of each category listed in #8 will receive a $20 gas card and PCPG travel mug.

10.   An overall winner will be selected by the PCPG Board of Directors at the April 2012 Board meeting.  The overall winner will receive free enrollment at a PCPG one-day seminar.

11.   PCPG reserves the right to use any image entered in the contest in whatever manner deemed appropriate, including but not limited to the PCPG website, PCPG Newsletter, Facebook page and brochures.
