  • PCPG....lobbied for, and helped secure enactment of legislation regarding the recycling of "Brownfields" sites in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Act 2 of 1995).

  • PCPG....Governmental Affairs Committee monitors the introduction of, and tracks the consideration of, all legislation and proposed regulations potentially affecting the practice of geology.

  • PCPG....Governmental Affairs Committee suggested new legislation to long-time PCPG Friend Representative Carole Rubley (R. Chester County). Rep. Rubley sponsored House Bill 924 which became law in record time as Act 139 of 1997, repealing State Copyright requirements for PA Geological Survey Publications, and making publication of Survey reports easier and more cost-effective in the future. One result of this legislation is publication by the Survey of Map 61 on the Internet. Check out Map 61 at the Pennsylvania Geological Survey Home Page.
  • PCPG....has provided written commentary and verbal testimony at hearings involving numerous pieces of legislation and sets of proposed regulations.
  • PCPG....publishes a semi-monthly newsletter, PA Geotech, which has broad distribution to PCPG members, governmental and academic institutions, and other professionals interested in the practice of Geology.
  • PCPG....maintains ongoing relationships with other geologic and engineering associations
  • PCPG....retains services of association management counsel to perform all administrative tasks associated with the management of PCPG activities.

PCPG Member Company geologists now serve on: the following PADEP Committees: Citizen Advisory Council; Storage Tanks Advisory Committee; Solid Waste Advisory Committee; Low Level Waste Advisory Committee; Water Resources Advisory Committee; and the PADEP Science Advisory Board and subcommittees (for implementation of Pennsylvania Act 2). PCPG member Company Geologists also serve on the PADCNR Geological Survey Advisory Committee, and the U.S. Department of the Interior's National Geological Mapping Advisory Committee.
  • PCPG....secured the appointments of two of its member representatives to the State Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, the State Board which regulates the practice of these professions.
  • PCPG....is conducting an on-going program of statewide Training and Seminars on current topics, such as: Pennsylvania's Land Recycling Act (Act 2) Regulations; Ethics, Standards and Practices; and refresher training for Geologists' Registration examinations.
  • PCPG....has completed work with the Pennsylvania DEP to develop policy on DEP's expected use of the Professional Geologist seal on permit applications, professional reports, and other submissions in the Commonwealth. The result is a PADEP Policy published in June of 1998 in the Pennsylvania Bulletin, providing extensive guidelines specifying professional tasks for which the PADEP expects use of the professional geologist seal and use of the professional engineer seal.
